Signs It’s Time to Replace Your Window Screen

If Yours Looks Different: If the spline refuses to enter the groove even with moderate pressure, stop and compare it with the old spline. The replacement may be too large.
Step 5: Secure the Remaining Sides
Continue installing the spline around the frame.
As you work across the opposite side, gently smooth the screen with your free hand to remove wrinkles.
Use light tension, not excessive force.
This is one of the most common places beginners run into trouble. Pulling the screen extremely tight may seem like the right thing to do, but too much tension can bow the frame inward.
Work around the remaining sides until the screen is secured around the entire perimeter.
At the final corner, trim the spline so the two ends meet neatly without significantly overlapping.
What You Should See: The finished mesh should look flat and reasonably tight without noticeably pulling the sides of the frame inward.

Step 6: Trim the Excess Screen

Take your time around the corners. Cutting too close to the inside of the spline can accidentally slice the screen you just installed.
Remove the excess mesh as you work around the frame.

Step 7: Reinstall and Test the Screen
Return the screen to the window in the same orientation it was originally installed.
Engage any spring clips, pins, tabs, or retaining hardware.

Gently press around the edges of the screen frame.
